We’ve have done extensive testing today and we have now tested 2 brand new printers both of which were the px730wd – both systems were running on windows vista – initially both machines ciss worked before updates – after a firmware update one of the machines ceased to recognize ARC chips at all.

We are unable to locate the exact build date of these printers its entirely possible one was built earlier than the other

At the moment we have a handful of customers out of hundreds using the px730wd and px830wd who have found similar issues – while not conclusive at this time – as Martin says choose no to updates.

All the affected customers bought printers after 1st Jan 2012 and have had firmware updates

One particular customer bought single use cartridges from Tesco last week and they worked fine – he then updated the firmware and bought more cartridges from Tesco which were then not recognized – and we have now sent a CISs and 2 new chips and the printer will no longer accept aftermarket products.

At the moment its early days and when we get more conclusive data we are happy to post here

Hi, Sorry I missed this before now… You should be able to revive the printer again provided you install an external waste kit sooner rather than later.

You may have to purge the tubes running from the cleaning/resting pad using a syringe to suck things through.. Failing that some suitable cleaning solution capable of breaking down your printers ink.

The other thing worth noting is that I’d put that printer on a lipped tray as it could be overfull and likely to leak too… Hope that helps, albeit late…

Hi there.
I have an R1900 with CIS and, yes, the inkpads have been silently and sneakily filling up to the point that, without any warnings being shown, I got the brown gooey stripe on the back when I printed some A3+ images.
It wasn’t until I searched t’interweb for solutions that I learned of your external waste ink system. Too late!
Or is it? Is there a successful way to replace sodding – whoops! sorry, I mean sodden – inkpads? If so how???

I have just installed the waste ink tank in my SX415. I already have a CIS installed. My waste pad is under the tube in full visibility, you can even touch it. I have had this printer for 2 months and already it has used 10% on the one pad (according to reset utility). I have printed about 200 images. Therefore i’ll need to reset it in 18 months.

This error only ever appears if the date setting has not been set properly or you have lingering files in the C drive and/or registry that the utility looks for and errors on finding.
In terms of the utility deleting itself, that is something that’s easily side stepped by ensuring you don’t leave the zipped version in the same folder that you extracted from.

Sadly this is one of the things with CIS equipped printers.. Because there is no sensor in the pads you can easily end up with a printer that’s doing a good impression of the titanic…
As for the courier turning the box upside down… Yep, that’s another “great” way to find your printer has filled its pads and then some

Unfortunately there are no reset utilities that can be run on a Mac and, after a lot of other folks have tried and failed, I’ve reached the conclusion that the least stressful approach is to either borrow a laptop with Windows on or buy an old one from a thrift store or similar for a few dollars/pounds/notes and keep it specifically for things like this.

There are that many old laptops around now that you should be able to virtually get one for free.

HELP !! I have installed the wast ink receptacle and tried the download for the ink pad reset but it is for PCs …. any mac guys out there that can help me!!!
Please I love my RX700 and it scans so well and quickly — I really want it to work again … even if only for the scan function . I purchased a newer Epson top of the line all in one but it is S L O W

Yo Martin yes I know about the waste ink I am sure you read about my undoing when I gave my flagship printer to my Son and he sent it to canon for repair. I had that printer 5 years and never once did I get or have a problem with the waste ink messages, it just printed on and beautifully on. The waste ink was just bursting to get out but was all right until some courier turned the box upside down. I think the waste build up is slower on CISS equipped printers and mine was at the point of warning when this accident happened. I am still pinning at the loss sob sob.. P.S. I never reset the waste counter. (The hat)

After following all the instructions, I still get a message saying “error, you cannot run this program”. As soon as I try to run the program it shuts down and deletes all the unzipped files! Do you have any suggestions?

Update: 2manuals has agreed to issue me with another Service Utility. I wanted to make sure that my system was functioning perfectly before re-sending the 2 System Config. files they need to lock the utility to my system.

I’m aware that the reset utils available from 2manuals are locked to specific computers and the sort of hardware failure you have suffered might well be part of what causes it to fail.

My advice, if you haven’t already would be to contact 2manuals with an updated hardware profile and an explanation of the situation and see what can be done, if anything. Hopefully there will be a positive outcome.

I am not a happy camper now! I purchased the utility and used it twice, a stick of ram was fried and had to be replaced, now the utility does not work. I can’t believe how they, 2manuals can offer such an application that will not allow you to change even a memory stick. I can’t express my anger enough here in words……
